What this counts to
The countdown targets Maghrib on the eve, currently 7 February 2027, and not the first day of fasting. A day in the Islamic calendar turns at sunset, so the month begins the evening before. That evening is the first tarawih, and the first fast is kept from dawn the next morning, 8 February 2027.
The distinction matters enough that it is the first thing written into this project's own documentation. Getting it wrong shows the month starting a day early, and this site did once display it that way.
Where the dates come from
Each country's date comes from its own religious authority, because each one announces separately. There are 6 in the table on the home page.
- Malaysia, Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM)
- Singapore, Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (MUIS)
- Brunei, Majlis Ugama Islam Brunei (MUIB)
- Indonesia, Kementerian Agama Republik Indonesia (Kemenag)
- Saudi Arabia, Taqwim Umm al-Qura (Umm al-Qura)
- Turkey, Diyanet Isleri Baskanligi (Diyanet)
A date is labelled Projected, not announced until the responsible authority declares it. Projections come from calculation and are usually right, but they are not binding, and this site says so rather than presenting them as settled. When an authority announces, the date is corrected here and in the app.
Countries outside MABIMS apply a different visibility criterion, so their dates are never derived from Malaysia's. Each carries only the years verified against its own authority, which is why some rows list fewer years than others.
What this site does not do
- No ads, anywhere on the website.
- No accounts and no sign-in.
- No prayer timetables. One Maghrib time for one date is the moment the month begins, which is this site's subject. For daily waktu solat or an imsakiah timetable, use your own country's authority.
The app
The Android app adds what a web page cannot: a home screen widget, local reminders before the first fast, a fasting day mode once the month starts, and offline dates that update when an authority confirms.
